Matthew 6:9–13

The Lord’s Prayer

A simple framework for guided prayer

Jesus said, “Pray like this.” These words are both a prayer you can pray and a pattern that can open into a longer conversation with God. You do not need experience or polished words to begin.

Start with one guided meditation on “Our Father,” or choose your own path. Take 2–10 minutes at your own pace.

What is the Lord’s Prayer?

Jesus gave this prayer to his disciples as a pattern for life with God. It begins with God as Father and King, then brings our daily needs, failures, relationships, temptations, and troubled world into his presence. It can be prayed word for word or used as a framework for a longer time of prayer.

Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
